investigators aren't certain race played a role either. he thinks the attacker chose him because he was small and easy to subdue. the thing that baffles him is he is white and nearly every one of the other victims is black. booker was nearly murdered three weeks ago.
richard booker said he never thought he would be the one being hunted. abuelazam was apprehended without incident at the atlanta airport just minutes before boarding a flight to tel aviv. but soon police had enough tips, evidence and eyewitness accounts to make an arrest. but they released him, and he allegedly attacked again, now with the hammer. police found a knife and a hammer in his chevy blazer. > reporter: they also know he was in virginia because he was arrested there just last week. > state, federal and local authorities working together used technology to confirm that our suspect has been in the genesee county, michigan, leesburg, virginia and toledo, ohio, areas at the time of each of the 18 assaults. then victims started turning up in leesburg, virginia, where his sister lived and in ohio where last saturday night a church custodian was stabbed. later that same night, nearby the last flint victim was stabbed and died. > reporter: he was hired about a month ago but left august 1st telling employees he was headed for virginia. > all my employees never thought anything about this guy. > reporter: authorities tracked down abuelazam with a string of clues he left behind and his co-workers at this party store. the streets are deserted at the time they are walking. all occurring to individuals who are walking alone on the streets.
